Killer profile

2017x

A straightforward chaser from the early roster. It wins on patient pursuit rather than on tricks, which makes it dangerous on open floor and forgiving of mistakes on tight loops.

2017x is the Abyssal Escape killer most new survivors meet first, and it punishes the instinct to run in a straight line toward the nearest objective.

How it pressures survivors

2017x applies pressure the slow way. It does not need to catch you on the first contact; it only needs to keep contact. Every corridor you cross in the open is a corridor it can start tracking, and every loop you run carelessly teaches it where you like to go. The danger is cumulative. A survivor who panics early burns stamina that they will not have when the gate finally opens, and 2017x is built to make sure the panic happens early. Because its pursuit is steady rather than explosive, newer players often underestimate how much ground it has already covered before the first real chase begins.

Safe distance and angles

Stay off long sightlines. The moment 2017x has an unobstructed view, it starts closing a gap you cannot see over, so break line of sight early by turning corners rather than by sprinting straight. Doorways and stacked geometry are your friends here: a tight loop forces the killer to re-acquire you after every turn, and that reset is where you buy breathing room. Keep at least one solid object between you and the killer when you are not moving, and never finish an objective with your back to the main hall.

How survivors should coordinate

Split the map, not the chase. One person drawing 2017x across an open area drags it away from an objective two teammates are finishing, but only if the pursuit stays in the long lanes where it is weakest. Agree who gets tagged when a downed survivor needs a rescue, so nobody improvises a recovery under pressure. Communicate the phase you are entering, because 2017x is most punishing right before the gate, when everyone is already tired and already clustered.

Watch the reset

A missed strike is short cover, not a free pass. 2017x returns to pressure faster than players expect, so treat any pause as a chance to relocate, not to heal in place.

Tip

Pick your loop before the killer arrives. Deciding where to run while you are already being chased is the single most common way this matchup is lost.

Questions

Is 2017x worth banning early?

It rarely needs an early ban. Its strength is consistency, not a hard counter, so most teams get more value from removing a killer that can lock down an objective outright.

What is the easiest mistake to avoid?

Sprinting down open hallways. Break line of sight first and save the burst of speed for when you have already turned a corner.

Does it fall off late in the round?

The opposite. Late rounds bunch survivors near the exit, and that crowd is exactly the open ground 2017x wants. Expect more pressure after the gate than before it.

Counter it

Match a stamina tool or a short crowd-control ability to the counter window, then use the reset to relocate rather than to recover. Review the survivor ability page for tools that break a chase, and rehearse the escape routes on the how-to-escape guide before you rely on them under pressure.
